WebSep 10, 2012 · Does porting reduce recoil? A qualified Yes. It does. Just not very much for shotguns. Porting (muzzle brakes) on rifles are very effective. But a large percentage of the recoil of a rifle can be attributed to the mass of the powder (that turns to gases to propel the projectile down the barrel.)
