Search results are presented … WebCosmic strings [6] belong to this category of sources. The third observing run (O3) started on April 1, 2024, and ended on March 27, 2024, and we use the data from the LIGO-Hanford (H1), LIGO-Livingston (L1), and Virgo (V1) interferometers to place constraints on cosmic strings. These constraints are reported in this Letter.

WebJun 28, 2024 · A cosmic string is a kind of structure that has been discussed in theoretical physics for quite a while. I think most attempts to think about quantum gravity allow such things, so I don't think a cosmic string would necessarily distinguish among quantum gravity theories. In that sense it would not necessarily support string theory over other ... The huge amount of energy they contain also makes them... WebJun 16, 2024 · We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 dataset. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks, and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions.
WebThe behavior of a quantum test particle satisfying the Klein-Gordon equation in a certain class of 4 dimensional stationary space-times is examined. In a space-time of a spinning cosmic string, the wave function of a particle in a box is shown to acquire a geometric phase when the box is transported around a closed path surrounding the string. WebThe interaction of strings is characterized by the formation of loops. When two strings intersect each other at two points or when a string crosses itself, they reconnect and an isolated cosmic loop is formed. Cosmic string loop formation. A loop forms (a) when two strings interacts in 2 separate points or (b) when a string crosses itself.
